How the quantities are calculated

Patch panel and simple cutting grid

Each patch piece uses the finished cutout width and height. The panel check compares an as-entered grid with a rotated grid and uses the layout that fits more matching pieces. The entered cut allowance is reserved between repeated pieces, but not outside the panel edges. The check does not optimize mixed rotations or irregular offcuts.

Tape length

Tape length starts with the perimeter of every patch: 2 × (width + height). The entered allowance is added, then the result is divided by the roll length and rounded up.

Optional backing strips

A horizontal strip uses the opening width; a vertical strip uses the opening height. In either direction, the entered overlap is added at both ends. Total length equals cut length × strips per patch × patch count.

Does this planner choose a drywall repair method?

No. It calculates materials from the finished opening, candidate panel, tape, and optional backing plan you enter. Confirm the repair method for the wall assembly before buying material.

What dimensions should I enter?

Enter the width and height of the finished, squared cutout you plan to fill. Do not measure only the torn paper or visible dent if the damaged material will be removed.

Does the tape estimate include joint compound?

No. Tape is estimated from the patch perimeter. Joint compound coverage depends on the product, joint width, coat count, application, and sanding, so use the product instructions.

Can I use this for a fire-rated or wet-area wall?

You can record dimensions, but the quantity result does not approve the repair. Fire-rated, moisture-exposed, waterproofed, plaster, and unknown assemblies need assembly-specific instructions.
